PBT
Core Definition
A semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester engineering plastic, polycondensed from terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol. It has a similar structure to PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and is a commonly used material in the electrical & electronic and automotive sectors.
Core Properties
- Mechanical: High rigidity, good creep resistance and wear resistance. Unreinforced grades have moderate toughness, which is significantly improved after glass fiber reinforcement.
- Heat & Electrical Resistance: Long-term service temperature is around 120°C (up to 140°C for glass fiber reinforced grades). It features excellent electrical insulation and arc resistance.
- Chemical & Physical: Oil and organic solvent resistant, low water absorption, and good dimensional stability. Disadvantages include moderate weather resistance and notch impact sensitivity.
- Processing: Fast crystallization rate and short injection molding cycle, suitable for thin-walled and complex components. It can be welded, electroplated and sprayed.

Electrical & electronic products (connectors, relay housings, transformer bobbins), automotive parts (sensor housings, wire harness fixtures, lamp components), home appliances (motor parts, switches), optical fiber jackets, gears, bearings, etc.
