Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK)

 

PEEK is a high-performance polymer composed of repeating units containing one ketone bond and two ether bonds in its main chain structure. It is classified as a specialty high-molecular material.

 

 

Performance Characteristics:

  • High-temperature resistance: PEEK has a glass transition temperature of 143°C, a melting point of 334°C, a long-term service temperature of up to 260°C, a short-term service temperature of up to 300°C, and a load-bearing heat deflection temperature of up to 316°C.

  • Mechanical properties: Its strength is close to that of metals, with high rigidity and exceptional fatigue resistance under alternating stress, comparable to alloy materials.

  • Chemical resistance: PEEK is insoluble in any solvents, strong acids, or strong bases except for concentrated sulfuric acid, and it exhibits excellent hydrolysis resistance and high chemical stability.

  • Self-lubrication: It possesses excellent sliding characteristics, and PEEK grades modified with carbon fibers, graphite, or PTFE demonstrate superior wear resistance.

  • Flame retardancy: PEEK is self-extinguishing and achieves a UL 94V-0 rating without the need for flame retardant additives.

  • Electrical insulation: It maintains stable insulation performance even under high-temperature, high-humidity, and other harsh conditions.

  • Biocompatibility: PEEK is non-toxic to human tissues, does not cause rejection reactions, and has an elastic modulus close to that of human bones.

 

 

Processing Methods:

  • Injection molding: Suitable for mass production of complex components, such as gears and electronic component housings.

  • Extrusion molding: Used to produce PEEK tubes, rods, and films.

  • CNC machining: Enables precision machining of high-end components, such as medical implants and aerospace parts.

  • 3D printing: Ideal for customized production in the medical and aerospace industries.
