Bio-based nylon 1010 was developed in China in 1958. It is synthesized through the polycondensation of sebacic acid. Sebacic acid and decamethylenediamine are dissolved in ethanol in an equimolar ratio, and a neutralization reaction is carried out at normal pressure and 75°C to produce bio-based nylon 1010 salt. The bio-based nylon 1010 salt is then polymerized in a reaction vessel at 240-260°C and 1.2-2.5 MPa to yield bio-based nylon 1010. The polycondensation process can be conducted using either batch or continuous methods. Alternatively, the polymer can be directly synthesized by polycondensing purified decamethylenediamine with an equimolar aqueous solution of sebacic acid, followed by extrusion, cooling, and pelletization to produce nylon 1010 pellets.
Bio-based nylon PA1010 is a unique member of the nylon family, synthesized through the polycondensation of sebacic acid. Both primary monomers used in the production of bio-based nylon 1010 are derived from castor seeds, making it a renewable bio-based nylon material. The high-temperature resistance of PA1010 brush filaments depends primarily on the melting point of its raw materials. Generally, the higher the melting point, the better the heat resistance.
According to the material properties table of bio-based nylon PA1010, its melting point is 194°C, while the melting point range of conventional nylon materials is 205-250°C. Therefore, it can be concluded that the heat resistance of bio-based nylon PA1010 brush filaments is inferior to that of conventional nylon brush filaments. Its heat deflection temperature is approximately 90°C, making it unsuitable for high-temperature environments. However, it exhibits excellent wear resistance, strong bending recovery, superior fatigue resistance, and good chemical resistance, which contribute to its outstanding service life under high-intensity polishing and cleaning conditions. As a result, it is well-suited for applications such as fruit and vegetable cleaning brush rollers, medical brushes, toothbrushes, glass polishing brushes, and similar products.
